the natural resources of australia
Australia has many resources that we harness and make a living off, few resources Australia has are: Coal, Uranium, Gold, Bauxite, copper, lead, zinc, diamond and iron. I am going to go into further detail about Iron in Australia.
Iron in Australia Iron is the most common mineral in the world and the fourth most common element. It forms most of the outer and inner core. The periodic symbol for iron is Fe and the atomic number is 26.
How do you refine Iron?
First it starts as iron ore which is rock that contains amounts of iron and to refine it we need to remove all the oxygen. Iron has to have its silicon removed when it is refined so it has to go through a running-out furnace and into a trough to oxidize it which makes it easier to remove the silicon.
Uses and quantity of Iron
Australia has shipped out $47.2 Billion dollars of iron ore out to different countries, which has overtaken coal as the number one Australia's most valuable export. Australia's main use of iron besides selling it is making it into steel because steel is the most useful metal.
Iron Locations throughout Australia
There are 5 Iron Mines in Australia varying sizes, there are 2 in Western Australia called Koolyanobbing, which is near the bottom of Western Australia and Pilbara region mine (By far the largest in Australia and most of the ore comes from it) which is more further up in Western Australia. There are no Iron mines in Queensland or Northern Territory but there are three in South Australia around the “Big Bite” all close together called the Iron Knob, Iron Duke and the Whyalla. There are also 3 Iron deposits near Newcastle in New South Wales that have not been named not yet turned into mines. One deposit is also in Victoria in Liverton North which also is no a mine and 2 deposits and one mine in Tasmania, the mine is in Savage River and the deposit without the mine is in Port Latta.

Job Employment
The Australian local use of Iron is mainly making steel for pipes and other necessary things for civilization. The Job employment in Australia with Iron mines would be huge, a lot of people come from other countries let alone other states just to work at the Pilbara Region mine. There is also other jobs besides mining when it comes to iron manufacturing like maintenance and engineering.
